Things kicked off with a boot
Buzzworthy - Feature It!

Baltimore’s leadoff man yesterday, Nolan Reimold, hit a sharp grounder to third that Adrian Beltre booted. The same thing happened with the next hitter, Adam Jones. Official scorer Mike Petraglia initially gave Beltre an error on both plays before changing his mind and giving Reimold a hit because of a bad hop off the notorious Fenway Park infield. One of the best third basemen...

Daisuke Matsuzaka will pitch in Tim Wakefield’s spot in the rotation in Baltimore on Saturday, a move the Red Sox [team stats] view as temporary but will be one of two important roster transactions in the coming week. The team will need to make a move to create room on the active roster for Matsuzaka, who is currently on the disabled list. The day before Matsuzaka pitches,...

Shaky stroke of ’pen
Buzzworthy - Feature It!
smokeyboy found this 3 years ago on www.bostonherald.com
In the top of the seventh inning yesterday afternoon at Fenway Park [map], Red Sox  manager Terry Francona came out to the mound to collect his starting pitcher, Tim Wakefield. The old knuckleballer had dazzled the Baltimore Orioles all afternoon, with only one run across for the O’s. As he walked off the mound with a three-run lead, a runner on third for which he was...

Tim Wakefield knew his fate before he threw a pitch against the Baltimore Orioles yesterday. A perfect game would not have kept the Red Sox from sending him to the bullpen, a decision that rendered the veteran righthander furious. That Wakefield pitched well into the seventh inning and left the game to a standing ovation only seemed to prove his point. But the Sox denied him the...

Eighteen months ago, the NY times announced that it was actively shopping its stake in New England Sports Ventures, which owns the Red Sox, NESN, Fenway Park and other real estate holdings. It said it was selling its 17.5 % stake in NESV in an effort to raise cash and shield the paper from the rapidly-developing revenue squeeze that hit the newspaper industry in the wake of the recession.

WWW.SOX1FAN.COM found this 3 years ago on www.sox1fan.com
Red Sox southpaw Jon Lester pitched 5.2 shutout innings this evening, but his bullpen allowed two runs in the seventh inning and another in the eighth as the visiting Baltimore Orioles tied the game, thereby leaving the lefty with only a No Decision to show for his efforts. But the Sox scored in the bottom of the frame, courtesy of a bases-loaded walk to Adrian Beltre, and they went on to...

RHP Michael Bowden and four relievers held the Bisons in check, while 3B Jorge Jimenez and LF Daniel Nava delivered big blows in the PawSox 5-3 triumph at McCoy Stadium. In Trenton, NJ, the Portland Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder (NYY) matched each other pitch-for-pitch through the first five innings, but Trenton scored eight runs over the next three innings and eventually cruised to a 9-1...

Jacoby Ellsbury’s ribs have fractures
Buzzworthy - Feature It!
smokeyboy found this 3 years ago on bostonherald.com
Ellsbury said he asked the Red Sox to schedule a CT scan and an MRI, both of which were administered yesterday. Until then, he had undergone only one set of X-rays, on April 11 in Kansas City, Mo. The CT scan showed nondisplaced fractures that wouldn’t appear on an X-ray. “That makes more sense,” said Ellsbury, who was diagnosed initially with bruised ribs.

Wilson puts Rangers back in win column
Buzzworthy - Feature It!
smokeyboy found this 3 years ago on mlb.mlb.com
C.J. Wilson earned his first victory as a starter. Darren Oliver earned his first save in almost 16 years. And the Rangers? Well, it's been a week since they've been able to thoroughly enjoy the postgame buffet in the visitors' clubhouse, but on Thursday night, they were able to do just that. "It's nice to be able to smile again," manager Ron Washington said after Wilson,...
