Rites of Spring , by Peter Gammons

| | Mr. Gammons describes what Spring Training USED to be like ... and how it's changed through the years.
As I've said in other places, I feel sorry for those who did not get the chance to go to Grapefruit League , or Cactus League games when things were more genteel, more laid-back, and a lot more fun.

| | While few of us will lament the fact that scalpers may not be in a robust market this year, it's interesting to note that demand for tickets is apparently on a decline.
Has the frenzy ended? Do you think that it's because the Sox don't have as dynamic a staff as in the past? Or, people just aren't as willing to pay $100 for a bleacher seat...

| This is an interesting story, and those filing comments also have some varying opinions.
Yes, part of it was due to the Celtics and Bruins having both extended their playoff seasons. Yes, the Sox had a bad time of it in April and May.
Could it be other things, or are they contributing to the drop ?
- Has the frenzy over the Sox subsided a...

| | Mike Yastrzemski has chosen not to play pro ball at this time and accept the scholarship offer he received from Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Considering he was drafted on the 36th round, it's probably a good decision. Guys that get drafted that low rarely make it to the bigs. If he were selected in the first ten rounds, that would be a...

Richard Vitale - aide to Mass. House Speaker Sal DiMasi, was indicted by a grand jury on ten counts of influence-peddling charges, allegedly for taking a $60,000 fee from a consortium of ticket brokers to help get the anti-scalping laws repealed , and allegedly agreeing to keep his efforts secret.

I don't know what impact that has on MLB, but it would seem to affect the Cubs' activity in the free agent market.

section15 found this 3 years ago on www.naplesnews.com
| | Pretty interesting story .... Fort Myers / Lee County have WON the battle against Sarasota to retain the Red Sox.
Lee County is seeking donations of the land. Free land, to do this. This is not as far-fetched as it seems; a great deal of undeveloped real estate is held in parcels of well over 100 acres. If an entity...
