When a “cache of 19th century letters” written to baseball pioneer Harry Wright appeared last summer in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game FanFest auction, baseball historians suspected that the correspondence may have originated from the A. G. Spalding Baseball Collection at the New York Public Library. The New York Times published a series of articles...

They breakfast with “SportsCenter’’ and drift off at night listening to Joe Castiglione and Dave O’Brien call a Sox West Coast game. They dream of following in Jerry Remy’s footsteps someday - not necessarily by stepping into the ex-infielder’s cleats, but by warming the seat next to Don Orsillo’s in the NESN broadcast booth. In short,...

Red Sox losers in this pitched battle
Buzzworthy - Feature It!
Rafe Anderson found this 2 years ago on www.boston.com
Nothing is certain for Tim Wakefield at this point in the season, at this point in his career, at this point in the pain. He can barely walk around the clubhouse, with a limp that gets more and less noticeable, based on the day. There is constant discomfort, most obvious when the aging knuckleballer attempts to do anything short of stand and throw. And even that, even pitching, is...

Losing Red Sox play it cool
Buzzworthy - Feature It!
Rafe Anderson found this 2 years ago on www.bostonherald.com
Down a half-game in the wild card standings after their 4-3 loss to Texas yesterday, the Red Sox turned their backs on a team whose backside they now look at. The Sox were burned by the Rangers here, losing two games out of three, and this season, losing seven out of nine with Texas. Don't give up yet but it's not looking good for the Sox... oh ya, watch out for Tampa.

The Red Sox's "new season," as Dustin Pedroia termed it, is off to a positive start. One night after the reigning American League Most Valuable Player vowed that his team will not surrender its season following a four-game weekend sweep at the hands of the Yankees, Boston backed up the second baseman's words on Monday with a 6-5 victory over Detroit at Fenway Park. Let's...

Another tough loss for the Red Sox... Here is a link to the article in the NY Post. A week ago, there were pockets of grumbling inside the Yankees' universe about the club not making a deal to help at the trade deadline. Sergio Mitre was the fifth starter and the corner outfielders looked slow in the field. The on-the-record quotes spoke of the Yankees having made their moves in the...

Yesterday a video posted on the site NSFW POA hinted that a naked blonde woman videotaped through a hotel peephole was a popular sports personality. ESPN lawyers pounced. Maybe we should mention the woman looks like Erin Andrews.

Rafe Anderson found this 2 years ago on www.boston.com
The 42-year-old right-hander allowed four of the first five batters to score before settling down in his first major league game in more than a year. The Washington Nationals hit him hard by pulling pitches high in the strike zone the first time through the lineup, scoring all the runs they would need in Thursday night's 9-3 victory. Smoltz, who spent all of his previous 20 seasons with...

After the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, Katherine M. (Kitty) Dooley, the daughter of one of the team's original "Royal Rooters," made a special request. Dooley She asked that a front row seat in Fenway Park’s Box 36 near the Red Sox on-deck circle be given to her as a family memento. It was the seat that her late...
