This is the first of two installments on the Red Sox deal with Lee County for the new spring training facility. After reading the article, it sounds to me like some Lee County officials are feeling as if they have sold their soul to the devil over this deal.
From the article:
"It doesn't look like a contract, it looks like a purchase order from the Red Sox,'' says former Fort Myers Mayor Wilbur Smith. "It's the most one-sided lease I've ever seen.''
How pliable was the county?
"The Red Sox have all the approvals and all of the outs along the way,'' says Smith, 63. "The county has no way to hold the Red Sox to the agreement.''
