Buzzworthy - Feature It!
BoSox Hooligan - RSM™ wrote this 3 years agoPermalink

I learned something interesting the other day while watching Spring Training. Apparently Tazawa went against the way the Japanese go about drafting their players into MLB. I guess Tazawa didn't want to go through Japan and wanted to come directly to America avoiding drafting policies set forth by Japan. Which means that he wouldn't be able to return to Japan if he were to decide that he doesn't like playing in the majors.

Has anybody else heard anything about this?  It's really not that big of a deal, but it's still very interesting.  Acquiring Japanese players is always interesting in itself.  I couldn't find anything else on this either.

So then what's the deal with this? How does it change things? Won't it save money in the long run?

BoSox Ho..
this is a VERY big deal, theo bent some serious rules to get tazawa (angering brian cashman quite a bit), and he did it with very good reason. even if it was just the industrial league in japan, and 1.02 era in any league is amazing, and he is 22. even if tazawa flops (not likely) this changes everything for japanese players coming to mlb in a major way

BoSox Ho..
it is actualy a big deal. Japan and the Stastes have/had a long standing unwritten rule about this and now they are thinking of going after undrafted U.S. players as well

Talk about your proud bunch, man. I didn't realize just how serious they take negotiations like this. Well, this is the perfect place for him. There's no shortage of fellow Japanese pitchers to chill with.

BoSox Ho..
I heard that they were upset at US as well for going around the normal procedure. They dont like losing stars or potential stars to the states, especially with out getting paid (like the 50 million we had to pay to even negotiate with Dice).
