So, I've been a little MIA recently, & haven't gotten out my usual Dustin love since his birthday! So the story behind this little piece: I have a class called "History through Sports" & we have to do a MT. Rushmore of sports, & Dustin of course is on it! Tell me what you guys think!
Dustin Pedroia: Throughout Dustin's whole life, he has loved the sport of baseball, he has also had doubters tell him he couldn't play that game. He's too short, his hands are too small, his throw has a hook in it, his swing is too big, anything you can imagine that could discourage him, they said it. Though Dustin has had doubters he has excelled at every level in baseball with a positive never give up attitude. When he was 8 years old, he was playing with 12 year olds, and beating them, his sophomore year in high school, he beat out juniors and seniors for the starting spot on the varsity baseball team, and in college, he received a full ride scholarship to Arizona State University. In the minor leagues Dustin excelled moving up to the majors in record time. Although when he got to there, he hit a minor snag. In his first major league season, his first two months were less than subpar, he was booed, and talked about, people begged Terry Francona to take him out of the lineup, writers talked about slumps, not a day went by when there wasn't a bad comment about him. Although he knew all of this was going on, Dustin never gave up, and because of that he is now one of the best, if not the best second basemen in the major leagues. As Dustin Pedroia's third season is coming to a close he has accomplished a lot more than anybody has ever expected. He has a world series championship( and if everything goes right this October he'll have another), he was the 2007 American League rookie of the year, the 2008 second baseman silver slugger, the 2008 second baseman gold gold glove winner, and the 2008 most valuable player. All of these achievements are great, but what I admire more about Dustin Pedroia is the fact that he wouldn't take no for an answer, he wouldn't let anybody tell him what he could or couldn't do. Dustin Pedroia is a truly inspiring person, and that is why he is my favorite Red Sox player and number one on my Mt. Rushmore of sports.
