The car ride wasn’t boring, but it was rather long, it felt like it took positively forever to make it to the Maine state line, but after passing it, we made quick work of New Hampshire, & were soon in Massachusetts. Before I knew it we were in Boston! While my aunt was freaking out while we were going over a “rickety old bridge” I saw the first beacon of light, the Citco sign! After we went through a couple of tunnels, & passed the TD BankNorth Garden, I saw my first glimpse of Fenway, I swear I saw it for less than 4 seconds, but you better BELIEVE it that I was excited! We parked, picked up our tickets & headed to THE ballpark of all ballparks, Fenway Park! After we walked a very short distance, I saw Fenway Park from the outside, the aged brick, the banners, the souvenir shop. At this point it was only about 10:00 & the game started at 1:35, so we went to lunch. After eating we decided to go purchase some items, I bought a program (with Dustin Pedroia on the cover I may add!) & a New Dustin Pedroia shirt, my uncle bought a Papelbon shirt, & my sister (another) Varitek shirt. After we walked completely around the ballpark, stopping to have a photo opp with the Ted Williams statue, we entered the park. “The Bowels of Fenway Park” my uncle called it as we step in. Our seats were in right field, so we had walk a ways before we got to them. But I saw the light coming the through the openings, so I had to see it for myself, I was finally about to see the field of Fenway Park in the flesh with my own eyes! I’m not exactly sure was I was expecting, but the only think I could think of when I saw the field was “wow, it’s smaller in real life.” Odd maybe, but that’s the first thing that came to mind. Although I did see what I knew all along, Fenway, “America’s most beloved Ballpark”, was beautiful! We went to go find our seats, which by the way were lined up PERFECTLY with JD Drew & Dustin Pedroia(!!!!!), & got settled in watching Seattle BP. We were just sitting there, then we saw John Ferrel make his way to the bullpen, then Jon Lester(!), then Jason Varitek(!!), after we watched them warm up, & took a lot of pictures, we went to get drinks, then settled in for the starting lineup, when they said Dustin’s name I went crazy! & every when the said everybody else’s name too! After I settled down, I said “I will be happy if Dustin gets just one hit today!” After the National Anthem & all the jazz I was ready for the game to start. Well imagine my surprise when Dustin comes up to bat with one out in the first, no one on, & cranks a ball into the seat of the monster. I went insane! I don’t think I have ever been more happy & excited at the same time in my life! I honestly still can’t BELIEVE Dustin Pedroia, MY FAVORITE RED SOX PLAYER, WHOM I ADORE, hit a homerun in my first game at Fenway! Oh it’s so awesome. Then Youk gets the second out of the inning, & Papi comes up & crushes a ball to right field that lands just rows before ours! I went insane again! Pretty much after things settle down, if just for a little while, they announce the allstar lineup, which I’ve been dying to know since voting ended Thursday! When they said “starting at second base for the second consecutive year Dustin Pedroia” I almost died! I wanted Dustin to beat Ian Kinsler so bad for the starting spot! & he did! Then went they announced Wake would be playing, & I saw the smile on his face on the big screen while we gave him a standing O it just put the topper on the day! Until…the 7th inning! When we scored 5 times, twice on walks! It was awesome! I got to see Jon Lester pitch, Justin Masterson (!), & I even saw Paps throwing a little bit it the bullpen! I got to sing “Take me out to the Ballgame” & “Sweet Caroline”, I saw Josh Beckett (& those horrid silver sunglasses), Mike Lowell, Tito, & Rocco Baldelli in the dugout, I saw Sean Casey & Don Orsillo in the NESN broadcast booth! & I got to see the Red Sox win in the best ballpark in America. Although I had a ton of fun, & still am in shock that I even went to Fenway Park, I don’t know if it’s what I exactly expected, was it more, was it less? Am I sure, no. Will I ever be sure, who knows. But what I DO know is that, 1) I got to see Dustin Pedroia hit a homerun, 2) IT WAS HOT OUT TODAY! & 3) Dustin Pedroia looks taller in real life than on TV, so if you’re just seeing him on TV, then no wonder you think he’s so small. & I’m proud to say I watched the WHOLE game, didn’t get up once until it was over! (: All in all I could not have asked for a better first game at Fenway Park. I had so much fun, & you better BELIEVE I’ll be visiting again really soon. So now that I’ve been to Fenway, I can finally say what I’ve been hearing all along, if you haven’t been you really need to go, you won’t regret it!
