So, reading the Sporting News for the week of July 6, 2009. Little 2-page feature on Fenway.
Anyway, in discussing the "Ted Williams Seat" (Section 42, Row 37, Seat 21) -- You know, the "Red Seat" -- Youk says, and I quote:
"There's no way that's true. I don't think any guy can hit it that far. If anyone could, it'd be a great story because it's Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters of all time. But there's no way a ball could go that far, in the air. if it hopped up the seats, maybe, I don't know. That's gotta be close to 600 feet out there. But it's a good myth."
Youk -- A "myth"? So it ain't so....
I dunno, maybe, maybe not. As many know, the ball was reputed to have landed 502 feet from home plate.
I guess the point of this blog entry is that I haven't heard a peep about Youk's somewhat "doubtful/dubious" comments regarding one of the most famous events in Red Sox's history. Just wondering if anyone had.
