Top 3 Super Bowl Commercials
|

I'm still recovering from the party I attended last night, but in between sips of coffee and popping Tylenol this morning, I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts on what everyone loves about the Super Bowl... The Commercials.
All in all, I felt it was a pretty down year for Super Bowl Commercials. So many of them had what appeared to be a great setup, but fell apart when it came time to show the advertiser. Coke's ad featuring The Simpsons comes to mind in that department. Also, most of CBS' in house ads were especially awful... enough with Neil Patrick Harris, already!
For the record, there were only three commercials I really enjoyed. The Doritos spot with the little boy slapping his mother's date, telling him to keep his hands off his moma and his Doritos. That was funny and cute.
Also, there was a commercial with Brett Favre where he was accepting the 2020 NFL MVP. I have no idea what the ad was for, but it was great to see him having fun at his own expense.
And my last pick is an exception to the earlier statement I made about the in house ads for CBS... How in the world did they get Jay Leno to do a spot for The Late Show with David Letterman? And while we're at it, how did NBC allow it to happen? Is there some kind of Quid Pro Quo where Letterman will be in an ad for the Tonight Show during the Olympics? Crazy!
Anyway, those are my thoughts. A little later I may actually feel up to talking about the game itself.
Maybe.

Dear Billy,
I just want to be the first to reach out to you and say Welcome to Boston! September (and hopefully October) is a really beautiful time of year here and I think you'll just love it!
And thanks for waiving the no trade clause to get this deal done... Lord knows we could really use your help... even if it is only once every three or four days.
By the way, that stuff I said in the press the other day... that was all just a bunch of postering for my teammates sake. Don't want to hurt the feelings of the other relievers.
So again, welcome to town and I'll see ya in the bullpen!
Your new BFF,
Jonathan Papelbon
P.S. I hear you're taking off after the season... is that true? Not that we wouldn't want you here long term or anything... I'm just asking, that's all.

Dark Days Ahead?

As if it weren't bad enough to see the Skins lose their first pre-season game, 23-0... an inept performance to say the least... things got a lot worse when word srpead that the dreaded Eagles signed Michael Vick. Granted, the game didn't mean anything, but it was disheartening to see how pathetic we looked. Clearly I was hoping for more. And though the Eagles signed Vick, the ex-con has been out of the league for 2 years... so really, how good could he be?
But still, seeing our division rival steal the spotlight yesterday was like an added punch to the gut. And if the Skins don't get their act together in next week's pre-season game, I for one will be looking to punch someone in the gut myself!

Bronson Arroyo... Kid in a Candy Store!

Bronson Arroyo is either one of the bravest or craziest men in baseball. To be honest, I haven’t really decided yet which way I lean.
For starters, I love his devil may care attitude. He’s going to do what he wants to do, and to hell with those who disagree with him. He has a battery of pills and supplements he takes every day, many or which can not be found on the approved list of supplements endorsed by Major League Baseball. But he doesn’t care because he’s never failed a drug test, so he figures it must be alright.
That being said, there is a fine line between being your own man, and just being indignant. As such, I hate the fact that, at his disposal, is an approved list of supplements and drugs which he could take without any repercussions, now or in the future. But he refuses to play along. Thus, if the day ever comes where he does fail a test, he’ll have no one to blame but himself.
The other thing I like about him, though, is how candid he is about the 2003 anonymous drug tests. With David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez both having their names leaked, Arroyo openly admits that his name is likely on the same list. And that is something I applaud. I wish more players would come out and say the same.
But really, who out there is that brave… or crazy?
