Well ladies and gents, the sports calendar as flipped to our favorite season: Baseball.
Truck Day is Friday, Spring Training is almost here. There is hope for the world! And there is hope we will make it out of this deep freeze us New Englanders call winter.
Who's excited? You better be. It's going to be one hellova year.
I've got my room all decked out with various Red Sox memorabilia, to the displeasure of my roommate.
Now, my roommate isn't a Yankee fan (thank gawd because I wouldn't survive). She is a Joe Mauer fan. Not a Twins fan. A Joe Mauer fan. Knows nothing about him or the team, she simply adores him because he's from St. Paul and so is she.
That's fine. Whatever. I try to ignore her swooning and focus on what real baseball fans act like.
But that's not the kicker, my friends. When she moved into my room after winter break, she sees all the Red Sox things and tells me "When the Twins play the Red Sox, we're gonna have a problem!" I stared, not knowing what to say, but my adrenaline was sure as hell pumping. I said to her "No, it's only going to be a problem if you making it a problem." It was a friendly conversation, both of us laughing but inside I was screaming; "You mean when the Red Sox own the Twins and Joe Mauer!!" Cause damn.
I don't care what team you root for, but don't assume I'm going to become the anti-Christ when your team plays my team. It's not like I'm going to go out of my way to boo the Twins. No thanks. I'd much rather enjoy the game.
She’s since hung up various Joe Mauer pictures all over the room. Whatever. My Red Sox things over rule hers. HA!
(For all intents and purposed, Joe Mauer may be the nicest man ever and a great player. I'm certainly not bashing him).
Anyone else ever have a situation like this? Tell me all about it.
Soon my friends, soon. 7:05 will become the sanctioned time again, and nothing will stand in our way of October glory. Alright, I get ahead of myself. It’s all the excitement; it's getting to my head.
Anyone planning on heading down to Fort Myers to catch a game? If you are...lucky! Have fun!
Well folks, enjoy the few last days of the boring winter off season, cause the excitement, stress, joy, elation, anger, disappointment, and rivalrous behavior is on its way. And I for one can't wait.
