Well hello there SawxHeads! It's been a while hasn't it. I've been slacking in my blog writing. Oops!
Firstly, I would like to say happy new baseball year to everyone. Spring training is under way and I have to report that I am happy with what I'm seeing. All except that bit about Beckett getting hit in the head. That...not so much.
However, I'm sure most of us are pretty thrilled about the new comers. Ala, Carl Crawford (whom I have respectively nicknamed Zoro) and Adrian Gonzalez and others. Now, I'm not saying anything, only that I have a good feeling. I don't want jynx anything!
It's going to be a fun year.
In other notes around the horn, my History of Baseball professor gave me this article to read today. Link -> www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2011/03/02/a_womans_touch/
This girl is after my own heart. There is one quote from her, this Justine Siegal..."If you tell a girl she can't play baseball, what else will she believe she can't do? It's just the greatest game on earth, so why shouldn't we all play it?"
Yes. I think we all should. There was a commenter on this Boston Globe article who said that he thought that women were never going to play in the majors. He then went on to state that it wasn't that he thought women shouldn't play in the majors, but rather they couldn't. Women did not have the right body chemistry or the necessary skill needed to play.
What do you, dear readers, think? Do you believe that women should be given the same opportunities as other male baseball players? I think they should. There actually was a ban prohibiting women from playing baseball in the 1950s, but this rule no longer exists. I believe that there is a great opportunity for women to rise above the stereotypes.
Anyway, keep an eye on the Sox today, we're playing the Phillies at the moment and the last I checked (aka 10 seconds ago) it was 2-0 Phillies. Who's excited for the season to start? I know I am.
Enjoy this March day and let spring and warmer weather be here soon.
