My last post brought a lot of interesting comments--especially one being that I was a bandwagon fan.  Truth be known, I lived in Boston (Brookline) from 88-92 and was a Red Sox fan then .... but I was a fan who knew NOTHING about baseball.  Am I really a fan then???

I have had the grace of spending the past year with my partner who has a great passion for the game her entire life -- she has taught me the ins and outs of baseball (I was always a football fan).  I read books to understand the game, watched the entire season--every night on cable (since I live in NY I had to subscribe) and NOW feel like I can call myself I real fan.

Twice a year, we make a trip out to Cooperstown to visit the HOF and enjoy all the memorabilia stores.  There's a special spirit in that town.   It's wonderful.

Go Red Sox!

As I said in your first blog, and someone else already said we all where first year fans at one point. As long as a fan stays during the lean years that is all that matters.

K Dub is right. Why does it matter to some people when you become a red Sox fan? The point is that now you love them and root for them. To me no one needs to tell me when they started rooting for them. I applaud your post and hope everyone welcomes you here.

Never let anyone question your fanhood. If you believe and know your a true fan then that's all that matters. I think sometimes people try to bully folks that they are bigger fans than others but I think that is really petty. Is that what being a fan is really all about? I don't think so

Indeed. The best thing you could possibly get out of life is education. There's nothing better than knowing your stuff. I'm a stats junkie myself. I'm a pretty young fan and make it a point to read anything and everything associated with the Sox. I probably know more about historic players than I do current players. Gotta know your team's roots before you truly understand the Sox.

We all started somewhere and at some time...a fan is a fan in my book...regardless of when they started supporting this team.

I, for one, think the Sox should take all the NY based fans they can get!!! I also don't see how anyone can measure true love. At some point, all the people on here judging other people were new fans. You gain knowledge as you grow older and get more involved. I think to be Red Sox Fan you have to be a true romantic. That means you have to believe in Love At First Sight! (: ...View More
