Wonder what it will be next time he visits Fenway in his new Yankee uniform.
Youk was abruptly dismissed by the Red Sox and sent to Chicago, where I think he flourished. He came back to Boston and People cheered for him, as we all remember his pasionate way of play and his grittyness as well as part of a 2 time World Series winning team. Youk may have been a tempermental baby at times, but overall I respected him as a player on and off the field. He is a charitable guy with his Youk's kids program as well. The guy left his heart and soul on the field after every game.
So, next season when he comes to Fenway, will he be boo'd or will it still be Yooouuuk? I'd go for the Youk part myself, after all he does need a job and I guess you take what you can get in this fickle business, right? Damon left for the money while Youk was sent off packing. There is a difference.
But what if that wasn't the only job available? Youk was offered a 2 year deal with Cleveland for 2 years 18 million dollars. So you get only 3 million, (yes only... with the word million after it, it really doesn't make much difference) a year less than the 12 million the Yanks are giving for one year. 9 million a year to play baseball is good in my opinion, and to have 2 years playing with Francona again, wouldn't that be a nice plan too? This is assuming they had a good relationship which I'd say they most likely did.
So is Youk stickin' it to the man as they say, being spiteful to the Sox for casting him off? If that's the case then boo'd he shall be. A yankee uniform usually will get you an automatic boo, but I respect a good player no matter what team is on the front of his shirt. I did respect Youk here and will probably continue to do so, it's just hard to see your "fan favorite" ball players playing for the one team we as collective red Sox fans despise. At the end of the day it is just baseball and I just love to watch good baseball.
