Choke.
And choke they did those first place Yankees. I feel for you Yankee fans as this was similar to the Patriots undefeated season only to lose the Super Bowl. And I can't gloat given the season my Sox had this year.
Funny how things go sometimes, Phil Coke shut down the very team he played on just a few years ago. I really enjoyed watching him spike his glove at the end of the 8-1 win of game 4.
He made his major league debut on September 1, 2008 for the Yankees against ironically, the Detroit Tigers. He pitched a scoreless inning and struck out Granderson and Cabrera. In 2009, Coke got his first World Series title after the Yankees beat the Phillies in six games. Then in December 2009, Coke was traded to the Tigers as part of the trade that brought Granderson to the Yankees.
I am glad the Tigers won and look forward to them taking the whole thing. My favorite NL team, the Giants hopefully will be their opponent. Since SF won recently I'd like the Tigers to take it home. Whatever happens, I hope both teams show up and we see some great baseball being played. San Fran and Barry Zito brought their A-game for game 5 and it was exciting to watch.
Also congrats to our very own Terry Francona on his recent hiring in Cleveland. I wish him all the success in the world and look forward to his visits to Boston.
