Every once in awhile you hear of someones death and it hits you like it was family.
Carl Beane, "The Voice of Fenway Park", died in a car accident after reportedly suffering a heart attack while driving. Indeed, Carl WAS like family to Red Sox Nation, as his booming voice was always part of the Fenway experience, at least in my opinion.
Since 2003, Carl could be heard announcing the players, introducing a special person to throw out the first pitch or random messages to the crowd. In every picture or video I saw of him, he had a big smile on his face.
I am just about to go board a bus this morning for my daughters field trip to Boston and then we go to the game tonight with Cleveland. I will be sad not to hear Carl's big voice over the loud speakers and if they pay special tribute to this man I may just start to cry.
From Red Sox fans to Carl's family, you have our deepest sympathy as a wonderful man has left our lives, but given us such fond memories to keep him near our hearts.
And Carl, as you approach St. Peter at the gates of heaven, wait for him to say, "Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, Please welcome Carl Beane, America's most beloved announcer".
