Tell me Red Sox Nation how does it feel to be a small market team?  If yesterday’s blockbuster trade rumor comes to fruition so will the largest salary dump in MLB HISTORY.

With a little luck Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, and the Texas Tantrum Josh Beckett will be headed to LA any minute now. Probably on Magic Johnsons private JET. Oh and they are taking little Nick Punto along with - he’s never been to Disney.

In return, the Sox will get The Dodgers top pitching prospects Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa, first baseman James Loney, infielder Ivan DeJesus Jr. and outfielder Jerry Sands.  The two Pitchers coming to Boston from LA are the heart of this deal. De La Rosa actually won’t be making the trip to Boston just yet. The kid is so good he didn’t clear wavers so LA will have to pull him back out of the deal send him down to AA and make him the dreaded   “Player to be named later”

The heart of this deal may be the prospects, but the brain of this deal is the Salary Dump. If the Dodgers take the full brunt of this deal financially, in one move Cherington and Lucchino just trimmed 57 million dollars off next years books. Add in the expiring contracts of Kevin Youkilis 12 million, Dice K 10 mill and David Ortiz 14.5 Boston is looking at a payroll clipping of 93 and a half million dollars. Taking them from a opening day 2011 payroll of $175 million almost all the way back to the year 2000 when the Boston payroll was just $88 million.  On second thought, maybe Mitt Romney made this deal.

Any way this plays out it’s a win for Boston. They jettison three players who have repeatedly tested positive for PMS, get back as much, if not more than they gave up to bring Gonzalez here in the fist place. And now have the flexibility to rebuild this team in the blue collar image that ownership forgot can handle the pressure that comes with playing in Boston, and wins championships.
