When Butchie told me this AM that the deal for the sox letting Theo leave for Chi town was close to being done my eyes lit up, then he said don’t get worked up pop this wont be pretty. He was right. Chris Carpenter is now a member of the Sox. What Butchie wants you to understand is this is what the Sox wanted.  Boston had no intention of taking on major league talent or salary in this deal. That would have just been doing the Cubs a favor. They (the cubs) tried to push both Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Dempster on Ben Cherington but he wanted prospects that wouldn’t add to the Sox bottom line. And this is what they got a AA pitcher with a bit of upside. We were either going to get a high priced major leaguer or a mid level prospect. If the sox wanted to spend that money they would have done it in the off season. For better players than the cubs were offering..  Remember folks we just dealt away our starting SS to save five bucks. Hopefully this kid can help us down the road. The sox didn’t go into this wanting to do the Cubs or Theo any favors and you were all nuts to think we would be getting Starlin Castro
