Fan Votes 3 MONSTAH wrote this 4 months ago Permalink   Butchie says: Is this plan B or C Pop?   Through most of this off season Butchie has held firm that Bard would be the closer when Pitchers and Catchers reported to the Fort in a mere seven weeks. Well it looks like the sox have gone with plan B or is it C neither of us are really sure. What we do know is the front office got what they wanted in Andrew Bailey that they hoped for in Daniel Bard. A cheap closer they have control over for the next few years. When Paps took the money and ran to the City of brotherly love plan A was to move bard to the closer spot let Aceves fill out the five hole and pick up a starter and a set up guy in free agency, when they dollar amounts didn’t click with the sox new physical outlook they moved on to plan B try and trade for a starter make Melancon the set up guy keeping Bard as the closer. This too didn’t pan out as Boston didn’t have the firepower in the minors to bring in a quality starter. So on to plan C, hey I guess we do know its Plan C. Any way you cut this steak up you still have the same burning questions you had yesterday. Who is the number 5 starters on this team? There is no guarantee Bard can make the jump to the rotation and there is certainly no guarantee Bailey can stay healthy for a full season. Do we think bard and Aceves can each chew up 200 innings to help this now revamped bullpen lower its ERA and WHIP?  I’m not banking on it and Butchie isn’t betting the new Bat Santa brought him for Christmas. Lets not forget right field ? While I like Sweeny he has a decent stick and goes to the opposite field a lot he is another LEFTY did we truly need another lefty in this lineup? Butchie is holding out hope for plan D.  Aceves to the Rotation sign or trade for a quality guy to slip into the 4 spot then Melancon,Bard and Bailey in the pen.   GO SOX GO !!!  - MONSTAH

	This is a lot to take in. I don't know if Bard can move up to a starter either. I guess we'll fine out. Keep up the good work Butchie god knows we don't see anything in the papers about the Sox not up North anyways. hugs 01/18/2012 6:39 PM
