Butchie Says: that’s sounds familiar pop

Bobby Valentine was introduced as the Red Sox manager tonight in front of a packed house.  And he said all the right things made all the right moves and deflected all the tough questions.  The problem is this sounded a lot like Crash Davis teaching Nuke Laloosh his friends “ The clichés”

“We gotta play 'em one day at a time.
I'm just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ballclub.
I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out”.

Crash Davis

Bobby V is the smartest man in the Room; Trust me he will tell you so himself. Just don’t ask him on the Record. I sit here writing this with mixed emotions, my heart of course wants this to work, but my head just can’t come to grips with this decision. To hire a man who hasn’t had a job in MLB in eleven years in itself is moronic. Not to mention one with Valentines’ track record. One World Series appearance that he blew never finished in and barely ever tasted first place. (Something that will be very important under Bud Selig’s new idiotic extra wildcard team set up). an ego to big for Texas and NYC , how do you think that’s going to go over here in Boston a town where the fan base is convinced (myself included) they are the be all end all of knowledge in Baseball and how the Sox should be run. A mind set that is not only shared but exceeded by the self-important main stream media. Bobby might have left his last two jobs, in a maelstrom but he is walking into one here created by the Sox front office. No matter what was said in the press conference this hire was pushed onto Ben Cherrington, If Larry was going to do this why didn’t he hire Bobby before making Ben the GM, or just named himself GM ?  Before he had a chance to take his fist steps and put his mark on this team Lucchino has cut Bens Legs off. Cherington is 38 and knows baseball; he isn’t the 28 year old Theo who had to have his hand held as he crossed the street.  Bobby knows Cherington didn’t want him here and he knows Larry put his foot down and hired him anyway. What kind of respect is he going to get from a man who has never shown any respect towards his Boss in the past? And that was when it was only a case of Bobby thinking he knew more than anyone else. Do you actually think he is going to listen to report to and deal with a GM he knows isn’t running the show? Bobby knows he can end around the GM on every move. This hire has toxic written all over it.  When watching this press conference I see all smiles holding hands and posing for pictures but honestly doesn’t every relationship start out that way?

Great blog Butchie. All I could think when Ben said he suggest Bobby to the owners, was kid your lieing through your teeth. My feelings are the owners told Ben to go into that press conference and tell the fans and reports what ever it takes to make us believe that it was Ben idea. What the ownwes don't realize is the fans are alot more smarter then they give us credit for. Anyone that follow baseball know this was a done deal and Ben didn't have a prayer in hell of hiring anyone else but Bobby V. I will wait and see how he manages our Sox. The team that we all Love. If I'm proving wrong I'll be happy. But I got a feeling this has trouble written all over it. ...View More

I can't honestly say I know a lot abot "Bobby V". I can only hope that it works so we don't suffer another dismal season ending like last year. Some of the players didn't agree with the hiring, so do you think those players are going to perform better for this guy, especially if his contract is shorter than theirs? You can't force a guy who can't be fired to perform better. If you don;t care, do you think being "benched" is going to bother them? There needs to be consequences for their actions, but what do you do? In reality, as a "professional baseball player", you should be able to perform under any manager as you know how to play the game and just the paycheck alone should be incentive, and integrity your motive. I think we will see some fireworks during the season as some of these personalities will clash and bring embarrassment to Boston once again. Bobby not respecting Ben, Ben and Larry getting into pissing matches about what's best and so on. Murph, we've got to cross our fingers and hope for the best, put on big boots to wade throught the crap we are given. I think as fans, we need to show the team we need to see something for them to earn our respect back and our hard earned dollars. Good read ...as usual. ...View More
