Field Of Bad Dreams

More than a week after he was skipped in the rotation The Texas Tantrum had the opportunity to shut Butchie Me and the rest of the world up last night when he took the mound against the formidable Cleveland Indians. Did he come out six shooters blazing mowing down a lineup cast offs and quadruple A players to get his point across, did he paint corners and toss BB’s befuddling a team that starts one player with a season average north of 300 ? no he came out the pouty little brat he has been since the dime was dropped on him after last seasons melt down. And what did that get him and us ? two and a third innings of whiny baby on the mound. What did it get the team ? Another huge hole to try and dig out of. Seven earned runs on seven hits two more round trippers and a trip to the showers. Opportunity lost? Not if you’re Josh Beckett, he will just show us who’s boss at his presser.  No the Golf had nothing to do with it no he doesn’t see why it’s a big deal no he has no regrets its my off day ill do what I want, blah blah blah,. If September didn’t show us the first month of this season has, Josh Beckett just doesn’t care. He’s pitched for his last contract he has his rings and has packed it in.

We are Red Sox fans we are used to being disappointed we are used to things not going as planed. What we aren’t used to are players and a team that doesn’t care as much as we do. And that’s what it looks like we are stuck with

Nice post, Murph. Beckett just doesn't give a crap anymore. He has his rings and his money. No incentive to be a winner anymore.

Is it me or is that the way it feels? Every night the Sox are just bead enough to give it up. if the Starters go 7 strong the bats are frozen and the Pen is slammed.. if the starters aren’t on and the bats do answer quickly the pen  holds it the bats wont come through in the late innings. This team is just bad enough. an extra out here a dropped foul ball there and you get what the sox are, a high priced last place team searching for answers. The question is where do we lay the blame for all this? Bobby V, Theo, Larry and ownership or the Players? The split isn’t as even as it was before the season started. Bobby isnt going anyplace. Pedro, Millar and Manny aren't walking through that door. these Player have to play.

where do we start? The top of the payroll: over his last 30 at bats Adrian Gonzalez is batting a whopping 202 with two runs scored and not a RBI to his name. I was actually shocked to see he had only struck out 5 times in that span. He looks like a Tee Ball player out there. Everything is a weak grounder into the shift. I don’t remember the last time he hit the wall, you know that Big Green Thing in left we were all told he would feed off of like candy. Yes I know we are not dealing with a player who doesn’t care , Gonzalez is no JD Drew but what ever is ailing him he had better fix it fast before we stop talking about Crawford’s contract and he becomes Theo’s parting gift.

Then there are the kill us B’s Buchholtz and Beckett: Clay’s ERA is knocking on apartment 10 and there isn’t a single ray of sunshine in his arsenal. He can’t find the plate and when he does get a ground ball when he needs it, he walks more batters than he strikes out and has only made it through seven innings once all season. You can only blame rust for so long. Clay looks so bad Butchie was texting Wake yesterday and not just to say hi. If his back isn’t bothering him he needs to get into the film room and fix this or get onto a sports psychologists couch and get what ever is in his head out. Then there is the Tex-ass Tantrum Josh Beckett. 5 starts into this season the ACE has had what I would call two quality turns in the rotation and needs extra time off because Bobby had him go north of his normal pitch count.. SACK UP Josh, this isn’t little league.

Amazingly enough the Pen was the lone bright spot on this home stand: Atchison was brilliant (if your grading on a curve) not giving up a single run over his past eight innings. And Aceves has done all that’s asked of him and more. closing when the opportunity is there and going multiple innings on more than one occasion. And a Big ^ 5 going out to Darnell McDonald for his taking the mound Sunday.

We have a manager who isn’t respected by his players, players who don’t respect him or the game and an ownership that cares more about soccer and NASCAR than their baseball team. But there is good news is Crawford was moved to the sixty day DL and Youk might start a walking program this week. And Dice BB is way ahead of schedule.

Hey Murph, Right on Bro. You never know what team is going to show up each game. Middlebrooks came up with a vengance so far, but hopefully he won't fizzle out like so many do after a few games. How funny would it be If Dice-k came back and ended up being the ace of the pitching staff? There really isn't anything exciting about this team on a daily basis except for moments like mondays game. Youk being hurt presents a problem as well, is this going to be an on going thing? Going to the game on thursday with my daughter on a school field trip. I hope it's a good game, I can't say I am overly excited but I do love the buzz around the ball park itself on gameday. Hope all is well with you and your family, figured I'd give you a comment for your efforts, it's kind of a bummer when no one feels compelled to anymore. Ahh, the old days,eh? ...View More

Finally someone up there gets it. After years of playing chess, moving pieces like so many knights and pawns protecting his king and waiting out the other player to make a mistake so he can slip thru the back door he left himself three drafts ago. BB has changed tables. like a man holding a pair of Ace’s he’s seen the Flop and before the river he’s gone all in. after a second straight Super bowl loss something his clicked, The clock is ticking on Tommy terrific and Bill seems to finally see it takes more than great coaching to win it all. It makes no sense to continue to stoke pile draft picks you don’t use or when you do you end up cutting. This years draft was going to be different the words across the top of the Patriots draft board were simple IMPACT PLAYERS.

After Trading up to Pick 21 the Pat took Syracuse DE Chandler Jones : I was not as happy with this pick as many of my twitter followers and other writers were. Jones has talent there is no doubt about it but can he stay on the field?  He is what I like to call a hot tub All American. But Bill sees more than I do and even though he is someone I saw going in rd 2 weeks ago that wasn’t going to happen. And Bill didn’t think he would even last to 27 so he traded up and snagged him. Many are calling him a player who will play right away, well its not hard to get someone to dance with you when you’re the only guy in the room.  Either way he needs to spend less time in the trainer’s room and more time in the weight room. He is a very good pass rusher and that’s what we all wanted wasn’t it?

Then after again trading up to 25 The Pats took Dont’A Hightower LB Alabama : this pick had me chanting at the screen. I actually thought Bill would have taken him at 21 this kid is a beast. He plays both ILB and OLB and has even played DE impact impact impact that should be this kid’s nickname. I love this choice. He was the QB for the best defense in college football, what’s not to love? No matter what package BB wants to run this kid is so versatile he may never leave the field.

So Bill with his two Ace’s in hand has pushed all in, we have seen the flop lets see what comes on the river and the turn tonight . isn’t this more fun than Chess ?

Butchie Says : If Bard wants to Start

He Can Start the Eighth

Enough is enough. Bobby V does really well in telling folks what he wants and what he knows and what they don’t. That is when those players are on one year deals. It seems that anyone who has more than this season in their future as red sox gets placated and coddled by Bobby and the Front office. A player with three years of experience is telling the team “ If its temporary I’m ok with it “  I’m sorry but what ever happened to “happy to be here hope I can help the ball club”? Bard hasn’t even reached arbitration service time and he is dictating to his GM and Manager where he wants to play? You earn that right you don’t take it.  This team has serious issues in the rotation and the pen but has a fifth starter down at Pawtucket in Aaron Cook who we have to either call up or let walk by May first. And  with Dice BB far ahead of schedule coming back from Tommy John that’s another back of the rotation guy sent to the pen. Cook by no means is a franchise changing pitcher but he is a fine fifth starter as Bard could be. But could be is a luxury this team can’t afford. With Cook in this rotation and Dice headed for an early return they have a chance to rework this Pen into something respectable,  Bard is one of the better set up guys in the league and he needs to get off this what I want train and get his ass in the bull pen. Where he can start the Eighth

Once more into the breach dear friends, Once more I go into the dark expanse that is the Draft mind of Bill Belichick. Who am I kidding? I’m done trying to figure out what The Hoddie is going to do on draft day. Trade up trade down stockpiling picks like nuclear war heads that will never truly be used, I give up. What I am going to do this year is lay out exactly what I think the Pats need and who they should target in the first three rounds of Thursdays draft.

Its no small secret that the patriots secondary has seen better days. In my spare time I’m writing a book “Where have you gone Ellis Hobbs “but I digress. Its also no small secret that I like many others believe a great secondary can only happen in conjunction with talent and a great pass rush. Something we have not had a lot of  here on this side of the ball in quit some time. This is the area I hope The Hoodie will address early and often come Thursday night.

With the twenty-seventh pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Patriots Select

Dre Kirkpatrick CB Alabama: I know what I said about Pass rush I know I know, but the Hoodie wont be able to pass on a first team all American here at twenty seven and I don’t blame him. Yes he only had three INT’s but that isn’t his game. He shuts down wide outs at the line and down field when in man, and when in zone he is a beastly hitter. And for once he isn’t someone who has to overcome a size issue 6’3”. Why is he still here at twenty seven? A little police problem in FLA. Yes the police found his weed and had a problem with it. I don’t and coaches have a hard time keeping him motivated. The Hoodie wont.

With the thirty first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Patriots Select

Shea McClellin DE Boise State: this kid does it all and does it well. After a stellar senior bowl and combine he has moved up from a second rounder to someone a lot of people are looking at mid first. If the Farm Boy is there at twenty seven the Pats should pull the trigger. Because the three year starter at Boise won’t be there in round two where Bill would rather take him.

With the Forty-Eighth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Patriots Pick

Kendall Reyes DT UCONN yea Baby UCONN I love this kid how can you not he is a New England Native Nashua N.H and then went on to Connecticut where he was defensive captain both his junior and senior years. He has the size and strength to play at the NFL level, can play in both 4-3 and 3-4 and can handle the Patriots play book. Why is he still around at forty eight? The Big East gets no respect.

With the sixty second pick the 2012 NFL Draft New England Patriots select

Mitchell Schwartz OL Cal :  Schwartz started 51 games at cal moving effortlessly from LT to RT and can also play guard. Versatility, size, wingspan first team Pac 12 linemen add in All academic too?  Makes him to good to pass on at this spot

With the Ninety Third Pick in the 2012 NFL Draft The New England Patriots select

T.Y. Hilton WR Florida International

Hilton is a slot guy who is mean across the middle speedy elusive and get yards after the catch (sound like anyone we know?) this kid was all alone at FLA Int coaches planed to stop him and their players still couldn’t. Add in he is one of the better return guys in this years class and he is a steal at 93

That’s it folks that’s how I HOPE this years draft is going to go down. Yes a reach here and a scratch your head there but hey these Mocks are supposed to be fun right ?

GO PATS GO
