Buzzworthy - Feature It!

Game of the Week – Colts defeat Lions – This was a wild comeback by Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts who continue to be one of the pleasant surprises of the league.  The first 3 quarters featured a lot of back and forth as each team answered the others scores. Heading into the 4th quarter the Lions had the 30-21 lead.  A Jason Hanson field goal made it 33-21 with under 9 minutes to go making the comeback attempt monumental for Andrew Luck and the Colts. A 42 yard touchdown strike to Lavon Brazill got them back in the game but now they needed their defense to come up with a few stops.  The defense made the necessary stops but was forced to burn their timeouts and was tasked with going 75 yards with only 1 minute and 7 seconds left and no timeouts.  Andrew Luck made some good throws utilizing the sidelines and spiking the ball when necessary but it all came down to a 4th and 10 from the 14 yard line with 8 seconds left.  Andrew Luck dropped back and made his reads but nothing was opening so he started to scramble. Donnie Avery was coming across the field underneath and Luck was able to drop it off to him right at the line of scrimmage. The Lions who were guarding the end zone so heavily did not account for him and Avery was able to sneak in as the clock expired.  The Colts won the game 35-33 in what was one of the most exciting finishes to a game this season.   Surprise of the Week – Chiefs emotional victory – Less than 24 hours after the NFL world was shocked with the news of a Kansas City Chiefs player committing a murder/suicide at the athletic facility the Chiefs took the field with heavy hearts.  Not much has gone right on the field for the Chiefs this season so to see them come out and play a game that really in the grand scheme of life didn’t matter was a monumental win in itself.  The Chiefs rallied behind Brady Quinn and defeated the Carolina Panthers 27-21.  Emotions were high on Sunday as the Chiefs must now deal with the reality that they lost a member of their family in such a tragic way.   Disappointment of the Week – 49ers losing to Rams – The 49ers had a chance to inch closer to winning the division and took a step backwards after losing to the Rams 16-13 in overtime.  The 49ers appeared I control the whole game with a 10-2 lead in the 4th quarter but a 2 yard fumble return and a successful 2 point conversion tied the score up at 10.  The 49ers took the lead on a David Akers field goal with just under 1:40 to play but they allowed the Rams to tie it up on a 53 yarder.  David Akers missed a potential game winning field goal in overtime and the Rams ended it with another 54 yard field goal.  This one for a few minutes looked like it was going to tie once again for the 2nd time in just a few short weeks.   Fantasy Star of the Week – Adrian Peterson – Peterson has been nothing short of spectacular this season coming off of the ACL injury so quickly and still producing at the highest of all levels.  21 carries for 210 rushing yards and a touchdown was just the latest feat Peterson accomplished this past weekend.  Peterson has now surpassed 100 rushing yards in 6 straight games with 5 of those games resulting in 120 plus yards.   Fantasy Surprise of the Week – Bryce Brown – Brown has been the surprise of the fantasy world the past two weeks. Following his 178 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns last Monday Brown racked up 169 yards and 2 more touchdowns.  If it weren’t for 3 fumbles he would have amassed 30 points in most leagues 2 straight weeks. Not bad considering he was barely owned in any leagues before Shady McCoy went down.  As long as McCoy is out you should ride the momentum and hopefully he can lead you to a playoff win or two.   Power 5 Rankings   5. San Francisco 49ers 8-3-1 -  A loss to the Rams A team they tied a few weeks ago, this one also went into overtime and was very close to yet another tie. I guess these two teams are evenly matched which is odd to think since the Rams are 5-6-1.  This loss hurts as now the Seahawks still have a chance to claim the division setting up their matchup with them to be a huge game.  Kolin Kaepernick is still expected to start but if he struggles you can bet that Alex Smith will be right there to fill in.   4. Denver Broncos 9-3 – The Broncos jump into the power 5 as a result of some of the top teams losing this past weekend. The Broncos are hot winning 7 straight and have clinched the AFC West already.  Peyton Manning is playing at an MVP level which is exactly the reason they went out and signed him.  Demaryous Thomas has developed into a legit #1 receiver and this team is really clicking right now.  They will be a dangerous out in the playoffs.   3. New England Patriots 9-3 – The Patriots continue to win despite dealing with injuries to key players.  Tom Brady is playing great football and the defense has really improved over the past few weekends.  If that defense can keep opponents from scoring 30+ points the Pats will be an extremely tough out especially if they are able to secure a couple home games in the playoffs.   2. Atlanta Falcons 11-1 – The Falcons took care of business and avenged their only defeat of the season at home against the Saints on Thursday night.  They won despite Matt Ryan Struggling to complete passes.  The ground game was huge for them and the defense picking off Drew Brees was even bigger. The Falcons continue to grind out games and are inching closer to securing home field throughout the NFC playoffs.  The Falcons are extremely tough to beat at home so that is likely the remaining goal for the Falcons to close out the regular season strong.   1 Houston Texans 11-1 – It wasn’t pretty but the Texans continued to take care of business and now own a 2 game lead over the other division leaders in the AFC.  Though they haven’t clinched their division thanks to the pesky Colts the Texans did clinch a playoff spot and will look to secure the division and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Up next are the Patriots followed by the Colts, Vikings and then closing out the season with the Colts again.
