Well, it wasn't the Red Sox and I am very sad about that. But I guess the good thing about living in Tampa Bay and the Rays making it to the World Series was I actually got to see a World Series game in person.

What an experience! Some may not think it's a big deal, but I think it's cool to be part of something as exciting an historical as one of the biggest games in baseball. Hopefully the next one I attend will be with the Sox representing the American League.

I'm posting one of the pics I took here in my blog. I'll post more pics and some videos as soon as I get the chance at SoxualAddiction.com

Luckily, I got to sit in the Phillies section and the cowbells were more faint than the others parts of the stadium :)

I can only imagine what it is like in person at that stadium with those cowbells. You can't get the whole effect on TV. Good for you getting to a big game.

With all the wins the rays have gotten this season, it's hard to walk out of your place wearing Red Sox apparel. It would be nice to hang with some friendly fans and root on the Red Sox in public without the fear of being tasered.

Are any Sox fans here in Tampa Bay going out to watch the games in a bar or place that caters to Sox fans?

Sox get bashed at expense of "lucky" season

So the Tampa Bay Rays have clinched a playoff spot. First time in team history. But since they have played so well this season and their fans still don't show up to their games, they have to earn their respect by giving themselves nick names like "The new Beast of the East" and knocking the the "real" big guys of the AL East (Red Sox) Take for example the most recent home stand for the Rays when the Sox were there. A fan attempted to climb over the dugout and was apprehended by local law enforcement.  Not a vey bright move by anyone, but since the guy was a "Sox" fan, a Tampa Bay radio station had to make a big deal out of it on their website http://620wdae.com/pages/taser.html If it had been any other team, not such a big deal. But since the Sox are the only ones that pose any kind of threat to the Rays, that town is doing all they can to try and psych the Sox out.

Funny thing is, I think when this season is over, the Rays will go back to the ways they were before. Same as the other professional Tampa sports teams (pronounced football Bucanneers) So next season when they go back in the cellar, we can all chant to their mascot " Sorry, no donuts for you today Raymond " Poor Raymond even looks sad in that picture. Almost like he knows this is a fluke.

GO SOX in 2008!!!!

I think we all thought the Indians would be contenders for years to come after the ALCS last year and look where they are now...things change.

Agreed, Mikey... I wouldn't underestimate the Rays next year.

It's a little foolish to think that they'll end up in the cellar,as you put it,next year. They have a great core group of young, talented pitchers and quite a few young, talented position players.I'm not saying that they will win the AL East next year, but depending on what the other teams do in the offseason/FA market...and you just KNOW that moving into a new stadium equals spending lots of $$$ with the Skankess, will determine what happens with every team next year, our beloved Red Sox included.Too early to be throwing that out there,IMO... ...View More

Because I certainly don't. I recently went to a Sox/Rays game and the fans saw me wearing my Sox garb. All they could say was how classless it was to show up in their stadium with their rival team's colors.

Used to be more Sox fans than Rays fans here. When the team first came to town, there were definately more Yankee fans. Those fans make me puke. People in the area cried for years "we want a baseball team" and when they got one nothing but Yankee fans showed up.

That is of course until 2004 when the Sox won the series. But now that the Rays are doing well the Sox fan base seemed to have diminished somewhat.

The Rays fans are pretty hot now but since the team has been slipping in the standings, I don't really happen to notice too many showing up. I'd like to see more "team" fans at the games not just the fairweather ones.

GO SOX!!

Ya' know, I misunderstood that the yankee fan comment. I wasnt even looking and thought it was not the writter of the blog LOL! (I'm watching the Olypics, ya know). So to clerify, I'm certainly not accusing anyone of the commentors as yankee fans. Someone who is more obsessed with anything other than the Red Sox just may be a Yankee fan! LOL (Sorry Dave..)

Being born and raised a Sox fan is something I am proud of. I have
always been proud of them through good times and bad. Which is more than
I can say for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (now the Rays) fans! I think the
fans in Tampa Bay are bigger band-wagoneers than the losers that jumped
on the Sox train after 2004!

I've lived in Tampa Bay since before the start of the MLB franchise here
and always watched as the fans complained "Waaah, we want a baseball
team!" Well, you know they finally got one and they STILL never showed
up to the games. Unless of course the Braves or the Stankees were in
town! But you know since the explosive season this year, attendance at
Tropicana Field has risen 42%! Can you believe that? I can, damn band
wagon fans! Why don't you show up through the losing years too like the
Cubbies and the Sox?

Hell even the media always promoted the visitors over the home team.
(Come out and watch the Yankees as they come to battle the Devil Rays.
The Braves are in town to take on the Devil Rays) Well since the Rays
are doing so well this season, the media has seemed to have changed
their tune
A couple sweeps of the Red Sox and they consider themselves the next world champions.

Could they win? It's possible. Will they? Probably not. they are still a
young, inexperienced team and if the Yankees can choke like they did in
'04, why wouldn't a bunch of younguns? I guess we'll have to wait and
see. the season is still young too.

GO SOX!!!!

Good post. Hopefully the bandwagon fans will become diehards and we can have a new rival. They are a good young team and should be for a long time. Go Sox!!!

I was at Monday and Wednesday games and I have to say that the Trop was rocking. Over the past 5 years I have gone to countless Sox-Rays games and they were 90% Sox fans. This years I would say there were more Rays fans than Sox fans. Rivalry is good for the game, but these Rays fans are bush league and have no respect for baseball. Its the hip thing here and I for one let people know, its not OCTOBER yet, when it is we will see you in the cellar. Good post. ...View More
